Mediator in Trump-CBS lawsuit proposes $20 million settlement: Report
The newest offer comes after Trump reportedly rejected a lower $15 million offer from Paramount last month. Trump allegedly wants at least $25 million and an apology from the network, which it has so far rejected.
The mediator in President Donald Trump's $20 billion lawsuit against CBS News and its parent company Paramount Global on Wednesday proposed the president and network settle the case for $20 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The newest offer comes after Trump reportedly rejected a lower $15 million offer from Paramount last month. Trump allegedly wants at least $25 million and an apology from the network, which it has so far rejected.
Trump sued the network for allegedly deceptively editing a "60 Minutes" interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who at the time of the interview was also the Democratic nominee in the presidential race. News networks often trim interviews for timing purposes, but those edits do not usually include nixing important context or rearranging answers.
The $20 million proposal would direct Paramount to donate $17 million to a Trump presidential foundation or museum, and the rest would go to legal fees and public service announcements on Paramount's networks to combat antisemitism.
"President Trump is committed to holding those who traffic in fake news, hoaxes, and lies to account," Trump attorney Ed Paltzik told Fox News in a statement. "CBS and Paramount targeted the President in an attempt to harm his reputation while committing the worst kind of election interference and fraud in the closing days of the most important presidential election in history. President Trump will pursue this vital matter to its just and rightful conclusion."
The lawsuit threatens a potential merger between Paramount and SkyDance Media, which will need approval by the Trump administration.
