Misty Roberts released from jail after serving 90-day sentence for sex crimes against teenage boy

Former small town Louisiana Mayor Misty Roberts was released from jail on Monday after completing her 90-day sentence for the sex crimes she committed against a teenage boy in 2024. 

Roberts, who served as DeRidder mayor from 2018 through 2024, was convicted in March 2026 of the felonies of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile. 

She faced up to 17 years in prison for her crimes, but was sentenced in June to a mandatory 90 days in the parish jail, a five-year suspended sentence, and five years of probation. She was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, submit to treatment recommended by a psychologist, abstain from alcohol, submit to random drug screenings and have no contact with the victim or his family.

Roberts allegedly openly flirted with a drunken 16-year-old boy at a pool party in July 2024. She then lured him to the “bonus room” of her home, stripped down and had sex with him, according to court documents and witness testimony introduced during her trial. 

Roberts' own children testified against their mother in court, with the defendant's son claiming he saw the incident through a crack and took a picture of the pair that was shown in court, according to the New York Post. 

Her daughter also testified that she saw her mother and the teen victim “on top of each other.”

The victim's mother, who was not identified, also testified in court and slammed Roberts for seducing her 16-year-old.

“You thought so much of yourself in that bikini that night, you knew exactly what you were doing with his mind. He was 16,” the mom said. “What hurt almost as much as the initial betrayal was the attempt to shift the blame onto a 16-year-old boy from a 42-year-old woman.”

DeRidder community members slammed the sentence in June, with one member claiming the sentence was a "slap on the wrist," and slammed Roberts as a "child predator." 

“A slap on the wrist for a child predator, because at the end of the day, that is exactly what it is,” DeRidder native Kari McGee told KALB. “When it comes to children, we should use the fullest extent of the law. There are no excuses when it comes to our children."
