Former Hollywood director Rob Reiner's son Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the double homicide of his parents, after a federal grand jury indicted him on the charges.

The indictment, which was unsealed Wednesday but returned last month, charges the 32-year-old with two counts of murder and includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait, according to Fox News

The younger Reiner has been accused of fatally stabbing Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Brentwood home in December of last year.

"This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. "We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice."

Nick Reiner is being held without bail and is scheduled to return to court Sept. 15. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether they will seek the death penalty in the case.
