Steve Bannon asks Supreme Court to keep him from reporting to prison July 1, amid his appeals effort
Bannon, now a popular right-wing podcaster, was convicted nearly two years ago of two counts of contempt of Congress
Longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon on Friday asked the Supreme Court to keep him out of prison for having been found guilty of defying a congressional subpoena – after he appeals to have exhausted such efforts in appeals courts.
On Thursday, a federal appeals court panel rejected his bid to avoid reporting to prison by July 1 to serve his four-month sentence, according to the Associated Press.
The subpoena was from the Democrat-led House committee investigated the attack on Capitol.
Bannon, now a popular right-wing podcaster, was convicted nearly two years ago of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to sit for a deposition with the Jan. 6 House Committee and the other for refusing to provide documents related to his involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden, the wire service also reports.
