Supreme Court appears to support Trump's firing of independent agency board members

The Supreme Court, during oral arguments on Monday, appeared to support President Trump's firing of independent agency board members.

The high-court's conservative-leaning justices suggested they would overturn a 90-year-old ruling that restricts when presidents can fire agencies’ board members, or leave it with only its shell intact, The Associated Press reported.

The Trump administration's lawyers are defending the president's decision to fire Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter without cause, asking the court to reject the unanimous 1935 decision known as Humphrey’s Executor.

The court’s 6-3 conservative majority has already signaled strong support for the administration’s position by allowing Slaughter and the board members of other agencies to be removed from their jobs amid the ongoing lawsuits.
