Trump inks $25 million deal with Meta to settle lawsuit: Report

Of the $25 million, $22 million will help to fund Trump's presidential library while the remainder will go toward attorney and administrative fees.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday reached an agreement with Meta to end a lawsuit against the company for suspending his social media accounts in 2021 after the Jan. 6 capitol riot, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing "people familiar with the agreement."

Facebook and Instagram both suspended Trump's accounts in the wake of the incident, as did many other social media platforms. Trump ultimately created Truth Social, a Twitter-esque platform, to allow his unrestricted posting. Facebook and Instagram restored his accounts in mid-2024.

Of the $25 million, $22 million will help to fund Trump's presidential library while the remainder will go toward attorney and administrative fees.

Social media companies and big tech platforms have largely reversed their censorship of Trump's accounts and attempted to repair their relationships with him. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg attended the inauguration, as did Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
