President Donald Trump on Friday railed against the Supreme Court decision striking down his tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and highlighted that he had other statutory authority to reimpose the tariffs.

The court specifically struck down the president's authority to impose tariffs under that specific statute, but did not address whether any other statutory authorities granted him that ability.

"The good news is that there are methods, practices, statutes and authorities, as recognized by the entire court in this terrible decision, and also as recognized by Congress, which they refer to, that are even stronger than the IEEPA tariffs available to me as President of the United States," he told reporters.

"But other alternatives will now be used to replace the ones that the court incorrectly rejected," he insisted. "We have alternatives. Great alternatives could be more money. We'll take in more money, and we'll be a lot stronger for it. We're taking in hundreds of billions of dollars."

It's a big setback, as the economy was doing great and will now be complicated by having legal battles over paying back already-collected tariffs and trying to get new ones in place

It's a significant setback to his policies, but it may prove to be a benefit if the elimination of the tariffs improves the economy
