South Korean liberal President Lee Jae Myung told President Donald Trump on Monday at the White House that he looks forward to peace on the Korean peninsula and a Trump Tower in North Korea.

Trump met with Lee for talks on trade and defense on Monday.

Lee praised Trump's peacemaking success, saying through a translator, "I would like to mention that the only remaining divided nation in the world is the Korean peninsula. And I would like to ask for your role in establishing peace on the Korean peninsula. So I look forward to your meeting with Kim Jong Un, and the construction of Trump Tower in North Korea, and playing golf."

He said that the U.S. isn't being a peacekeeper, but a peacemaker.

Trump said earlier that Lee was looking to renegotiate its trade deal with the U.S., which he said may or may not be changed.

The U.S. president explained that the government will "buy ships from South Korea," and "get back into the ship-building business." He added that it was "ridiculous" that the U.S. stopped building ships, after building "virtually a ship a day during World War II."

Lee, through a translator, praised Trump for making the U.S. "great again," including its economy.
