The State Department on Thursday confirmed that it has fired a foreign service officer who allegedly admitted to being in a secret relationship with a woman who had ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The officer's confession was captured by Investigative journalist James O’Keefe, who filmed it on a hidden camera. The officer, identified as Daniel Choi, admitted to being in a relationship with the daughter of a senior CCP official.

Choi's termination comes because he was required to report the relationship to State Department security officials, but he admitted he "defied my government for love.”

“This termination is consistent with the executive order signed by President [Donald] Trump affirming both his constitutional authority over our foreign policy and the State Department’s responsibility to carry out his directives,” a State Department spokesperson said in a statement reported by the Daily Signal. “Under Secretary [Marco] Rubio’s leadership, we will maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any employee who is caught undermining our country’s national security.”

The White House approved Choi's termination after Rubio flagged that his behavior was grounds for dismissal.
