The State Department on Wednesday revealed that the current administration has revoked more than 80,000 nonimmigrant visas since President Donald Trump took office in January.

A State Department official told the Washington Examiner that the revocations were for a myriad of reasons, such as drinking-and-driving offenses and alleged terrorist activity.

"[The Trump administration] will not hesitate to revoke visas from foreigners who undermine our laws or threaten our national security," State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told the outlet. “Our message is clear: Entry to America is a privilege, not a right, and we will always put the safety and interests of the American people first."

The department said the biggest reason for pulling visas was criminal activity, with 16,000 visas being revoked for driving under the influence, approximately 12,000 revoked for assaults, and 8,000 for theft. Approximately 8,000 student visas were also revoked.

The State Department additionally said that it also revokes visas if there's an indicator that someone overstayed their visa.
