You Vote: Regarding the trade war underway between the US and Canada, what do you think?

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent blasted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday, claiming the foreign leader "chose to walk away" from a trade deal with the United States.

The Trump administration imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods ranging from alcohol to hockey skates earlier this month after Ottawa failed to sign off on a trade deal. Canada immediately retaliated, with Carney suspending trade negotiations with the U.S. and ordering retaliatory tariffs against American-made products.

Bessent said Canada was “offered the best trade deal of any country on the globe,” but Carney abandoned the deal “at the last minute.”

Mary Anastasia O'Grady of the Wall Street Journal sees it differently: "Mr. Trump has done serious damage to U.S. credibility by picking a senseless fight with a neighbor, ally and important trade partner," she writes. 

"For decades Washington has used trade agreements to help American farmers and manufacturers gain access to foreign markets, to develop international supply chains that boost competitiveness, and to enhance consumer choice and affordability. If those agreements can be abrogated unilaterally by the commander in chief, who’s going to trust Uncle Sam?"
