The deal, from which former President Trump withdrew the U.S. in 2018, places temporary curbs on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for large-scale sanctions relief.

President Biden has made it a priority since the 2020 campaign to revive the deal, but time seems to be running out after negotiations had stalled.

Iranian officials have said in recent days that they have the technical ability to produce a nuclear weapon.
