DOJ sues LA County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly slow walking conceal-carry applications

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Robert Luna, alleging they have infringed on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens seeking permits to carry a concealed weapon.

This department said the investigation leading to the suit started March 27 "due to numerous complaints of unreasonable delays" in the related permitting process.  

 The DOJ also said a review of 8,000 applications led to the suit. 

“The Second Amendment protects the fundamental constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Los Angeles County may not like that right, but the Constitution does not allow them to infringe upon it. This Department of Justice will continue to fight for the Second Amendment.”

The sheriff's department did not return a request for comment from Fox News, which was among the first news outlets to report on the suit.
