ICE detentions in July sets new records during Trump's second term

Detentions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in July set a new record for the second Trump administration, with 46,000 individuals facing deportation for immigration violations. 

The figures show that a summer surge increased in July, CBS News reported, citing unreleased data. Detentions last month blew through the previous record of 43,000 set in June. 

Arrests fell earlier this year following the fatal shootings of two American citizens who were protesting the Trump administration's immigration policies, but the reported figures show enforcement is rebounding after the incidents. 

There were 68,000 detainees in the ICE detention system across the country.
