Justice Department is transferring funds for DEI, transgender projects, to support law enforcement
A Justice Department official said Tuesday that the department, under Bondi, will not "waste funds" on things like DEI and will focus on things like crime instead.
The Justice Department is reportedly moving funds that were previously used on transgender and diversity projects to be spent instead on supporting law enforcement.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, on her first day in office, directed the department to terminate all diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) programs, and demanded the removal of all references to DEI in training programs. She also made the department stop emphasizing race and gender in its hiring and promotion guidelines, and refocused them to be based "solely on merit."
A Justice Department official told Fox News on Tuesday that the department, under Bondi, will not "waste funds" on things like DEI and will focus on things like crime instead.
"The Department of Justice under Pam Bondi will not waste discretionary funds on DEI passion projects that do not make Americans safer," the unidentified official said. "We will use our money to get criminals off the streets, seize drugs, and in some cases, fund programs that deliver a tangible impact for victims of crime."
The comment comes during National Police Week, which honors law enforcement officers nationwide who lost their lives in the line of duty. National Police Week runs May 11-17, 2025.
