'Large bank' will be sanctioned as part of economic war strategy with Iran, Bessent says
The Treasury Department is waiting until Monday so as not to carry out the sanction on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday that "a large bank" will be sanctioned on Monday.
The Treasury Department is waiting until Monday so as not to carry out the sanction on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Bessent said during an appearance on "Real America’s Voice."
The Trump administration has sanctioned other banks, including the Dubai branches of the second-largest bank in Egypt, which was accused of giving Iranians $1.8 billion of funds. On Sept. 4, the Treasury Department said it was sanctioning Turkey-based financial institution Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi Anonim Sirketi and its subsidiaries, CNBC reported.
The U.S. has implemented a range of economic actions against Iran, including sanctions, since the conflict with the Middle East country began. The Trump administration increased its pressure last month as part of what Bessent called "Operation Economic Outcast," which imposed sanctions on almost 60 entities, vessels and individuals.
