Summer travel forecast sees record visits to National Parks, which struggle with staffing cuts

As international travel costs rise, many Americans are expected to stay closer to home. 

Summer travel forecasts by Expedia expect interest in national parks and outdoor recreation will spike 65% this year over last. 

Yellowstone National Park saw the busiest May on record, the New York Times reported, and the influx of visitors this year will come as federal staffing at parks is reduced. 

Visitors should expect long waits at entry gates, uncleaned restrooms, and slower emergency response. Many parks have scrapped reservation requirements, and others have surcharges for nonresidents.
