The Utah resident in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk as of Sunday has yet to be formally charged but is expected to be as early as Monday, Gov. Spencer Cox said Sunday.

The suspect in Kirk's killing Wednesday, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has turned himself in to authorities and is reportedly jailed on murder-related charges but has yet to be formally charged.

Cox, a Republican, said late last week that Robinson would be formally charged this week, according to Reuters. And on Sunday, he reiterated on CNN that statement and suggested that authorities have meanwhile been gathering evidence to solidify the charges.
