The Trump administration announced on Tuesday it's moving oversight of special education and civil rights to other federal agencies.

Enforcement of civil rights in education will come under the purview of the Justice Department and the Department of Health and Human Services will oversee special education, the Associated Press reported

The Justice Department will also oversee the protection of student privacy and will provide some training and consultations to schools.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon said that the changes will align federal responsibilities with agencies that are best positioned to support them.

“The Trump Administration has been clear: as we scale back federal micromanagement when it hinders success, we are equally committed to bolstering the efficacy of federal oversight where it is essential," she said in a statement.
