Wyoming Republican governor orders review of DOJ election monitoring after primary

Wyoming Republican Gov. Mark Gordon has asked the state attorney general to investigate the conduct of two U.S. Department of Justice officials who monitored election activity in Laramie County during last week’s Republican primary.

The review follows complaints from Laramie County election officials, who said the federal monitors arrived at polling locations shortly after voting began on Aug. 18 and sought to observe voters, question election workers and examine aspects of the county’s election operations.

Gordon described the federal officials’ conduct as unusually aggressive and said he wanted state officials to determine exactly what occurred.

“I feel very strongly about the federal government coming in and taking our guns,” Gordon said during a Wednesday meeting to certify the election results. “I don't like that. I don't like the federal government coming in and taking our votes, either.”
