Former Proud Boy leader Tarrio, other J6ers march to Capitol on 5th anniversary of riot
The march will begin at the Ellipse just before noon on Tuesday and end at the Capitol
Former Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio is co-organizing a march Tuesday to Capitol Hill to mark the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the complex after which he and roughly 1,500 were charged in connection with the matter.
Tarrio said the march, at least in part, is to honor Ashli Babbitt, the Navy veteran who was fatally shot by law enforcement while attempting to climb through a broken window of a barricaded door behind which members of Congress were being evacuated.
"Join us as we march for Ashli on January 6th," Tarrio posted on X last month, NBC News reported Monday. "We also march in memory of those who passed away. 5 years ago a beautiful life was taken from us. A veteran and a patriot. So I ask those that are able to attend please do so.
"Justice has NOT been served and this would be the deadline for any criminal action against Michael Byrd. Will the DOJ respond?" he continued, referring to the Capitol Police officer who shot Babbitt during the riot.
"This will be a PATRIOTIC and PEACEFUL march. If you have any intention of causing trouble we ask that you stay home. This event will focus on one thing and one thing only…HER memory."
Tarrio included in the post a flyer that reads the march will be held on Tuesday, beginning at the Ellipse just before noon and ending at the Capitol. The flyer notes that marchers will place flowers in memory of those who died on Jan. 6, 2021.
President Trump pardoned the Jan. 6 defendants on his first day in office last year. Tarrio was not in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021, but was convicted for his role in planning the riot with Proud Boys members.
