A grandfather was caught in crossfire while buying happy meals for his grandchildren at a Houston, Texas McDonald's location and later died.

A gunfight between two groups broke out inside the restaurant with Jorge Arbaiza, 61, was ordering food for his family.

KHOU 11 reported that Arbaiza’s wife of nearly 40 years, Teresa, was in the car with the two children when the tragedy unfolded.

"I couldn't leave the kids alone. I could not go inside," Teresa said.  "The kids were crying, and they were scared."

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the incident as "senseless."

He said the restaurant was "full of customers, including several children."

Harris County Sheriff's Office arrested Antonio Ridge on Thursday and charged him with murder, Gonzalez said.

The search for other suspects is ongoing.

Fox News reported that the handgun used in the shooting was altered using a "Glock switch" to convert it from a semi-automatic gun into an automatic one.

Gonzalez said he is supporting a proposed bill in Texas to criminalize the possession and use of altered handguns statewide in honor of Arbaiza's life.
