At least seven people were injured in a shooting near Indiana University’s Bloomington campus early Sunday morning as large crowds gathered for the university’s homecoming weekend.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Kirkwood Avenue, a popular nightlife area close to campus, after the university’s homecoming events.

According to police, officers heard “multiple gunshots” and saw a man carrying a firearm fleeing the area. Officers pursued the individual and took him into custody, recovering a gun nearby. However, authorities had not determined whether the person detained was responsible for the shooting.

Seven people were transported to local hospitals with injuries. No fatalities have been reported.

Investigators also discovered shell casings of different calibers at the scene, raising questions about whether multiple firearms were involved. Preliminary information indicated that a disturbance may have preceded the gunfire.

Identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released.
