NYC Mayor Mamdani promises record level security at Israel parade that he won't be attending

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is promising that the city will provide a record level of security for Sunday's annual Israel parade. Mamdani, however, won't be attending the parade in protest of Israel. 

At a press briefing, Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the city would take steps to ensure safety at the parade, even though Mamdani won't be attending, The Times of Israel reported. 

Tisch cited a rise in antisemitism in the U.S., Canada and Europe and said the city would "not mess around with security" at the parade. 

Mamdani will be the first mayor of New York City to not attend the parade in decades. In previous years, tens of thousands have marched in the parade, led by the political leadership of the state and city. 

Tisch, who is Jewish, said she'd be "honored" to walk with other dignitaries in the parade.
