The parents of a 7-month-old boy who went missing were both arrested on Friday after authorities determined a kidnapping likely did not occur, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Authorities are now investigating the parents, Jake Haro, 32, and Rebecca Haro, 41, for murder.

Ms. Haro had reported to police that she thought her son Emmanuel was kidnapped, according to the Associated Press.

“Based on the evidence, investigators determined a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur,” the sheriff's department said in a statement. “The search to recover his remains is ongoing.”
