Rhode Island’s Democratic-controlled state House passes assault weapons ban

The Democratic-controlled Rhode Island state House on Friday passed a bill that would prohibit the sale and manufacturing of semiautomatic rifles.
Democratic Gov. Dan McKee said on Friday night that he is going to sign the bill into law.
According to the Associated Press, Rhode Island would join 10 states which have laws in place to ban the sale and manufacturing of semiautomatic rifles or "assault weapons."
The bill does not apply to possession of semiautomatic rifles.
