'Trump in heels' Virginia state Sen Amanda Chase to run for governor
Chase also ran for governor of Virginia in 2021 but lost in the primary to Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
Virginia GOP state Sen. Amanda Chase has announced a bid for governor.
“I’m absolutely humbled by the number of you who have contacted me to run for governor," Chase said in an email Wednesday to supporters. "The unsolicited response has been overwhelming to the point I’ve decided to respond."
She said that Virginia needs a "Trump in Heels" to defeat Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, according to The Hill newspaper.
Chase also ran for governor of Virginia in 2021 but lost in the primary to Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who must leave office next year because the state allow governor to serve only one, four-year term. However, a former governor can get elected to to anon-consecutive term.
Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears is the frontrunner for the GOP gubernatorial primary. Youngkin endorsed her earlier this week.
"I fully support @winwithwinsome to be Virginia’s next governor," he wrote on the social media platform, X. "She has been a steadfast partner when it comes to standing up for parents, backing the blue, making Virginia the Top State for Business and delivering historic tax relief to lower the cost of living."
