The city of Uvalde, Texas, reached a settlement agreement on Tuesday night with the families of the victims of the 2022 Robb Elementary School mass shooting, according to the families' attorney.

Alleged gunman Salvador Ramos, who was 18-years-old at the time, killed 19 students and teachers in the May 24 attack, before being killed by a Border Patrol agent. Law enforcement officials have been heavily criticized for their response to the shooting, after 376 people waited 77 minutes to storm the school and take down the shooter.

Josh Koskoff, an attorney representing the families, said the city unanimously agreed to the settlement, but did not disclose how much the settlement was, or the terms of the deal, according to The Hill.

“The road to healing is long and painful, but we are hopeful that this agreement enables families who lost so much and the city they call home to continue that process,” Koskoff said in a statement.

Uvalde Mayor Hector Luevano said during a city council meeting on Tuesday that the city's settlement could not make up for the losses of that fateful day, but that the city will work with the families to create a permanent memorial.

"Nothing can ever make up the losses and harms these families endured on May 24, 2022," Luevano said, per NBC News. "But today’s agreement marks an important step forward in advancing community healing, ensuring our city forever honors the lives we tragically lost, and supporting all surviving victims in the 2022 Robb Elementary shooting."
