Biden administration starts process for $1 billion arms sale to Israel: Reports
The process to actually transfer the weapons to Israel is not expected to happen imminently.
The Biden administration is reportedly starting the process of approving a $1 billion arms deal for Israel after pausing a shipment of weapons to the country over its invasion of Rafah.
The sale, reported Tuesday by multiple outlets, would include $700 million in tank ammunition, $500 in tactical vehicles and $60 million worth of motor rounds.
The State Department is having conversations with House Foreign Affairs and Senate Foreign Relations committees about the potential sale, which still needs congressional approval. This means that the process to actually transfer the weapons to Israel is not expected to happen imminently.
The reported sale comes less than a week after the United States said it was "reasonable" to assess that Israel violated international law during its battle against Hamas in Gaza.
