Brussels police arrested a Diplomatic Security Service shift supervisor late last month, who was assigned to Secretary of State Marco Rubio's protective detail, after the agent reportedly got into a fight with police and hotel staff, the Washington Examiner reported.

Sources told the outlet that the agent was part of the DSS advance party to Belgium, ahead of the secretary's visit to the country for a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) foreign ministers meeting last week. The advance team was tasked with securing the hotel for Rubio's visit and conducting other last minute security preparations in Brussels.

The arrest occurred after the agent, who's name was not disclosed, became irate when hotel staff refused to reopen the bar beyond its normal hours. Hotel staff reportedly tried to get the agent to return to his room, but the man became physically aggressive, prompting a call to the police.

The agent also reportedly got into a fight with multiple police officers, resulting in his arrest. But he was later released with the help of the U.S. embassy, sources told the outlet.

“The Diplomatic Security Service is aware of allegations of an incident involving an employee in Brussels, Belgium on March 31, 2025," the State Department told the Washington Examiner. "While we don’t discuss specific personnel matters, the allegations are being examined.”

The outlet reported that there have been no indications that the arrest caused Rubio’s security to be compromised.
