United States Capitol Police (USCP) on Tuesday announced that its rapid response team arrested a suspect outside the Russell Senate Office Building for allegedly threatening to kill a member of Congress.

The man was arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m. Eastern and was identified through a USCP BOLO (be on the lookout) bulletin that was released last month. The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Richard Griffin of Pennsylvania.

The department did not specify who the threats were lodged against, but said Griffin had an alleged history of sending threats to a congressional office, as well as to various other government officials and law enforcement agencies.

“We will not tolerate any threats to the Members of Congress, their families, or staff,” USCP Chief Michael Sullivan said in a statement. “Our officers, agents, and professional staff worked relentlessly to bring offenders to justice. We have a zero-tolerance stance when it comes to threats.”

It was not immediately clear if the suspect had any weapons.
