Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Monday that she is proposing a "full travel ban" on every country that is sending criminal migrants to the United States.

The recommendation comes after she met with President Donald Trump at the White House, which occurred in the aftermath of an attack in Washington, D.C., last week, where a man shot two West Virginia National Guard members, killing one.

The suspect in the shooting is an Afghan national who entered the U.S. with a special visa in 2021 in connection with the end of U.S. involvement in the war in Afghanistan and was living in Washington state.

"I just met with the President," Noem posted on X. "I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that's been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.

"Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS," she continued. "WE DON'T WANT THEM. NOT ONE."

The proposal also comes after the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services announced it is halting asylum decisions until all necessary vetting steps are completed to ensure American safety.

The U.S. State Department also posted to X last week that it has paused all visa issuances to Afghan nationals.
