Palestinian Authority welcomes Trump's 20-point plan for peace in Gaza
The Palestinian Authority committed to implementing the reforms, including holding new elections and ending its system that pays the families of Palestinians involved in attacks on Israel.
The Palestinian Authority on Monday welcomed President Donald Trump's 20-point plan for peace between Israel and Hamas, which would end the war in Gaza.
Trump called for the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank, to undertake a series of reforms in order to resume governance of the region. Trump will oversee a "Board of Peace" until the reforms are completed.
The Palestinian Authority committed to implementing the reforms, including holding new elections and ending its system that pays the families of Palestinians involved in attacks on Israel, per the Associated Press.
“The State of Palestine welcomes the sincere and determined efforts of President Donald J. Trump to end the war on Gaza and affirms its confidence in his ability to find a path toward peace,” the statement said. “We have affirmed our desire for a modern, democratic, and non-militarized Palestinian state, committed to pluralism and the peaceful transfer of power."
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar also supported Trump's peace plan and his promise not to let Israel annex the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the peace plan, but Hamas has not commented so far.
