Secret Service to conduct 'routine threat exercise' at White House while Trump is in Alaska
The routine exercise, which could include simulated gunfire, will take place from 8 p.m. Eastern through 1 a.m. Eastern.
The Secret Service is expected to conduct a routine training exercise on Friday night at the White House while President Donald Trump is away for his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The routine exercise, which could include simulated gunfire, will take place from 8 p.m. Eastern through 1 a.m. Eastern.
Nearby residents may hear the gunfire and should not be alarmed, the service warned, and some sidewalks outside the White House will be closed. All roads will remain open, The Hill reported.
The training comes after the Secret Service faced heavy criticism over an assassination attempt on the president last year while Trump was campaigning in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was wounded in his right ear and one person was killed.
Trump also survived another assassination attempt at a golf course last September, and was uninjured. The Secret Service has since been trying to boost the president's security when golfing ever since.
The training also comes while Trump and several of his senior staff and cabinet members are in Alaska to meet with Putin about ending the war in Ukraine. Trump is expected to depart Alaska for the White House at 9:45 p.m. Eastern.
