Trump admin says nationwide border encounters set record lows in July
Border Patrol encounters in July fell to 24,630, setting a record for the second consecutive month after border encounters in June saw a record low 25,243 encounters.
The Department of Homeland Security on Friday announced that nationwide encounters and single-day apprehensions along the southern border with Mexico marked record lows in July.
Border Patrol encounters in July fell to 24,630, setting a record for the second consecutive month after border encounters in June saw a record low with 25,243 encounters.
Border Patrol apprehensions nationwide in July were 6,177, and 4,598 on the southern border. July also saw the lowest single-day apprehensions in history, with 116 arrests nationwide on July 20, and 88 at the southern border.
“History made, again. The numbers don’t lie—this is the most secure the border has ever been,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. “President Trump didn’t just manage the crisis—he obliterated it. No more excuses. No more releases. We’ve put the cartels on defense and taken our border back.”
President Donald Trump's Border Czar Tom Homan also praised the new numbers in a post on X, and revealed that the Trump administration has already arrested over 160,000 illegal migrants in the U.S., the vast majority of whom were "public safety and national security threats."
"We have the most secure border in the history of this nation and the data proves it," Homan wrote. "President Trump has been a game changer and his leadership makes the country safer every day. With strong border security, you have stronger national security ... Promises made. Promises kept. Promises proven."
