President Donald Trump on Monday held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim at Thani to foster closer diplomatic coordination between both nations.

Israel attacked Hamas leadership in Qatar in early September, outraging Doha and attracting international criticism for violating Qatari sovereignty. The country also came under Iranian bombardment in the wake of American strikes on that country's nuclear program.

Netanyahu participated in person as part of his in-person meeting with Trump at the White House. A White House press release stated that Netanyahu "expressed his deep regret" for an Israeli strike on Hamas leadership in Qatar.

The two prime ministers, the readout said, "accepted the president’s proposal to establish a trilateral mechanism to enhance coordination, improve communication, resolve mutual grievances, and strengthen collective efforts to prevent threats."
