Trump hints at trip to Middle East as Gaza peace negotiations progress
He further expressed optimism about the prospects of the peace deal succeeding.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested he may visit the Middle East in the coming days as negotiations to end the ongoing war in Gaza progress.
"I may go there sometime toward the end of the week," he said at the start of an unrelated event. "Negotiations are going along very well."
Secretary of State Marco Rubio later interrupted the meeting to give the president a note about the situation in the Middle East.
"I was just given a note saying that we're very close to a deal in the Middle East, and they're going to need me pretty quickly," Trump said.
The White House later said the president was considering going to the Middle East after a planned visit to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, on Friday.
Trump made the remarks after previously announcing his plan to end the conflict, which would require a transitional government in Gaza and its eventual takeover by the Palestinian Authority.
He further expressed optimism about the prospects of the peace deal succeeding.
