Trump: Iran in 'state of collapse', wants reopening of Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that Iran had contacted the U.S. to ask for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and insisted the regime was in a "state of collapse."

"Iran has just informed us that they are in a “State of Collapse.” They want us to “Open the Hormuz Strait,” as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!). Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he posted on Truth Social.

Trump's comments come as negotiations have stalled and a deal to end the conflict appears distant. The U.S. has maintained a blockade of the critical waterway for weeks now.

Trump imposed the blockade amid the ongoing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, which has largely held despite considerable tensions between both sides.
