American forces on Tuesday seized a seventh oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea as Washington continues to maintain a quasi-blockade of Venezuela in the wake of former President Nicolás Maduro's extraction from the country.

"This morning, U.S. military forces, in support of the Department of Homeland Security, apprehended Motor Vessel Sagitta without incident," United States Southern Command said in a statement. "The apprehension of another tanker operating in defiance of President Trump’s established quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean demonstrates our resolve to ensure that the only oil leaving Venezuela will be oil that is coordinated properly and lawfully."

"As the joint force operates in the Western Hemisphere, we reaffirm that the security of the American people is paramount, demonstrating our commitment to safety and stability," the statement continued.

Earlier this year, American special forces removed Maduro from the country to face charges for alleged drug trafficking. President Donald Trump has since demanded that the Venezuelan authorities take steps to implement a transition of power.
