US Park Police officer critically wounded in DC shooting

The United States Park Police reported Monday that one of its officers was shot in the line of duty in Washington, D.C., and has been transported to a local hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Details on the shooting were not immediately clear, but it took place in Southeast D.C. at approximately 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

D.C. Metropolitan Police has closed multiple streets around the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place in Southeast D.C. amid the investigation. No suspect has been identified so far and no motive for the incident has been reported.

"We’re all sending prayers for the officer and the [United States Park Police Fraternal Order of Police] at this time," the D.C. Police Union said on X.

The United States Park Police is a police force that has jurisdiction over all federal parks, and is primarily stationed in Washington, D.C., New York City and San Francisco.
