Trump Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday amid tense negotiations to end the Ukraine War, according to NewsNation.

Last month, Witkoff managed to broker a deal with the Russian government to end the war that offered considerable concessions to Moscow. President Donald Trump, however, was unable to convince Ukraine to accept the deal and NATO's European members proposed a counter plan that was more favorable to Ukraine.

American officials remain optimistic about the negotiations, despite their slow pace, but Russia is increasingly making gains on the battlefield. Last month, the Russian Army completed the encirclement of the Ukrainian garrison in Myrnograd and managed to make considerable gains in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Whether Witkoff will be able to strike a new agreement remains to be seen, though Ukrainian President Volodymy Zelensky has repeatedly ruled out key concessions, such as ceding territory.
