Florida Republicans fall short in bid to flip a second House seat
Another blue seat Florida Republicans hoped to flip has remained in Democrat hands.
Incumbent Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla., held onto her seat in Florida’s 14th district even though Republicans redrew the legislative map to make her district more red.
The Associated Press called the race at 8:13 p.m. ET, more than an hour after polls closed in the Sunshine State, with 97% of the vote counted. At the time of reporting, Castor led Republican challenger Mike Beltran by 5.3 percentage points.
Castor is another Democratic seat that Republicans hoped to flip in 2026. The new district voted for Trump by double-digit percentage points, but the old district heavily favored Democrat Kamala Harris in 2024.
This is a developing story.
