Biden 'commends' Trump for Gaza peace efforts as Israeli hostages return home
Biden claimed his team worked hard to get a peace deal reached during his administration but acknowledged that Trump was the one who had the success in the final stretch.
Former President Joe Biden on Monday night expressed gratitude that all Israeli hostages have returned home and commended President Donald Trump's team for accomplishing the task.
The comment comes after former President Bill Clinton also celebrated Trump's accomplishments in the Middle East, which is expected to bring peace to the region. Former Vice President Kamala Harris also praised Trump and his team for the accomplishment, despite being on opposite sides of the political aisle.
Biden claimed his team worked hard to get a peace deal reached during his administration but acknowledged that Trump was the one who had the success in the final stretch. The war broke out two years ago, while he was in office.
"I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come – for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives," Biden said in a post on X.
"The road to this deal was not easy," he continued. "My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line."
Biden said that he hopes the deal will lead to lasting peace in the region and for Israelis and Palestinians to live with "equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety."
