White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday announced President Donald Trump will leave the G-7 summit in Canada early because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

The statement comes after Trump warned people in Iran's capital city to evacuate, but did not clarify the reason for the warning. He also claimed in a subsequent post that "America First" means Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

"President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer," Leavitt posted on X. "Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State."

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also directed more resources to the Middle East over the weekend in order to bolster U.S. defensive capabilities in the region amid the conflict, which began last week after Israel launched a preemptive air campaign against the Iranian nuclear program and key regime and military officials.

The United States has largely stayed out of the fight so far, but American forces have been involved in helping Israel shoot down Iranian projectiles.
