President Trump say US will not attend G20 summit in S Africa, citing 'human rights abuses'
The president's announcement was largely expected, considering the White House in May told federal agencies to stop work with summit organizers.
President Trump said Friday the US will not participate in the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit in South Africa, citing "human rights abuses."
“Afrikaners (People who are descended from Dutch settlers, and also French and German immigrants) are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and farms are being illegally confiscated,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
“No U.S. Government Official will attend as long as these Human Rights abuses continue,” he also wrote in the post. “I look forward to hosting the 2026 G20 in Miami, Florida!”
The president's announcement was largely expected, considering the White House in May told federal agencies to stop work with organizers of the summit, scheduled for Nov. 22-23. Trump indicated at the time that the United States would not participate, according to The Hill newspaper.
