Trump administration sues Maine over male athletes in girls sports
At issue is whether the state is abiding by a federal law that bars discrimination in education based on sex.
The Trump administration on Wednesday announced a lawsuit against Maine’s education department for failing to comply with its efforts to ban transgender athletes in girls' sports.
The lawsuit is the latest in a standoff over the matter between Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills and the administration, which has threatened to cut off federal funding and a White House clash in which Mills told the president: “We’ll see you in court.”
At issue is whether the state is abiding by a federal law that bars discrimination in education based on sex.
