President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Israel to cancel its trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that is slated to resume on Monday, or for the prime minister to receive a pardon for all corruption charges filed against him.

Netanyahu, who has denied any wrongdoing, has been accused of fraud and bribery, including of giving regulatory favors to Bezeq Israel Telecom in exchange for favorable news coverage of him.

Trump highlighted Netanyahu's recent efforts to defend Israel against Iran, which is largely believed to be funding multiple proxy groups that have attacked Israel in recent years, including Hamas and Hezbollah. Israel began attacking Iran directly on June 12.

"I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its Greatest Moments in History, and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister," Trump posted to Truth Social. "Such a WITCH HUNT, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel.

"Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State," Trump continued. "It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF 'JUSTICE' CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!"
