President Donald Trump on Thursday mourned the death of former wrestler Hulk Hogan, who died at the age of 71, and praised him as a "great friend" who was "true MAGA all the way."

Hogan died at his home in Florida earlier on Thursday, after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest. Hogan was recovering from surgeries, after undergoing a neck procedure in May.

The former WWE legend became a prominent supporter of Trump, after he gave a speech in favor of the president at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last year.

Trump called the speech "electric" in a post on Truth Social, and stated it was "one of the highlights of the entire week."

"We lost a great friend today, the 'Hulkster.' Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart," Trump wrote in the post. "He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!"

Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, before being removed in 2015 over a scandal about racist comments while he was being secretly recorded during a sexual encounter. He sued Gawker for posting the clip and won. Hogan was then inducted a second time in 2020 as a member of New World Order.

In May, Hogan said he was launching an amateur wrestling league, Real American Freestyle, which will have its first event on Aug. 30 on Fox Nation.
