Trump vows to withhold fed funds if Calif continues to defy exec order on males in women's sports
California risks, losing federal funding, possibly permanently.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday morning threatened to withhold federal funds from cash-strapped California if the governor and fellow Democrats in the state continue to defy his executive order banning males from playing in women's sports.
"This week a transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won “everything,” and is now qualified to compete in the “State Finals” next weekend," Trump said in a Truth Social post. "As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS," he posted.
Trump also referred in the post to California Gov. Gavin Newsom as "Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum," but he did not specify the sports event to which he was referring.
The post appeared to reference a high school junior who won the women’s long jump and triple jump during the state's Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Masters Meet over the weekend, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Trump issued the executive order Feb. 5.
California faces a $12 billion deficit.
"Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to," Trump also said in the social media post. "The Governor, himself, said it is “UNFAIR.”
"I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go??? In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!"
