Trump on running for third term: 'There are methods which you could do it'
“I’m not joking,” Trump says. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”
President Donald Trump said on Sunday that "there are methods" to run for a third White House term, which is prohibited under the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said during an interview with NBC News. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”
Trump has previously referenced running for a third term but GOP lawmakers seemed to take the remarks as a joke.
“I’m not joking,” Trump said. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”
Trump said he's "focused on the current."
NBC asked Trump if he has been informed of ways he could legally seek another term.
“There are methods which you could do it,” he said.
NBC News asked if Vice President JD Vance running, winning and then allowing Trumo to be president is a possibility.
"That’s one," Trump said, according to NBC. "But there are others too."
Trump was also asked if would want another term.
“I like working,” he said.
According to the 22nd Amendment, "no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."
